National
Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) regulations are
found in 40 CFR Parts 122 and 125 and in Arkansas Regulation 6 "Regulations
for State Administration of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination
System (NPDES), effective April 16, 2004".
The NPDES program requires permits for the discharge
of "pollutants" from any "point source" into
"waters of the United States."
When "quantitative data" for a pollutant
are required, the applicant must collect a sample of effluent and
analyze it for the pollutant in accordance with analytical methods
approved under 40 CFR Part 136.
General testing requirements are dependent upon if an organization
is applying for a new permit, meeting the requirements of an existing
permit, or undergoing permit renewal. Listed are a number of general permits, tables and
forms for which analytical testing is frequently requested. This
information is provided as guidance only. The applicability of these
forms to a given industry/site should be discussed with the appropriate
regulatory agency.
