Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) is regulated in 40 CFR Part 412
and Arkansas Pollution Control Regulation No. 6.
In
2003 the Arkansas General Assembly enacted laws that require that:
poultry growers register their operations with the Arkansas Soil
and Water Conservation Commission (ASWCC); growers and dry litter
applicators follow special application rules in "nutrient surplus
areas: in northwestern Arkansas; and those who develop nutrient management
plans or who land-apply dry liter in or from nutrient surplus areas
must be certified by ASWCC.
